Earlier this year we decided we needed to keep on the bands that were going to be around later in the year. We bought a bunch of tickets and last week ended up having three shows in one week to go to. It was so great! They were big medium and small shows. All different bands and tons of fun.
We kicked off the musical madness with The Decemberists and Spoon at Red Rocks Amphitheater. We like to get there early and have a fancy tailgate. So we pulled up with our mini Colman grill and some pinwheel steaks. While eating we got to watch a fox scamper around. From there we began to climb the umpteen-hundred or so stairs to get into the venue. Spoon was pretty cool, but we were really excited to see The Decemberists. While the bands were swapping out gear an employee came out and announced that there was a storm rolling in and he recommended taking cover. Not my favorite thing to hear. Storms terrify me. Yes, I turn into the 5 year-old girl that used to run and hide in the basement. Despite being terrified I agreed that we should take cover under one of the few trees in the venue rather than take on all the stairs again. Eventually the clouds cleared and we headed back to our seats to enjoy a full set.
Two nights later we were out at a local dive with a friend that recommended a band called July Talk. Eric and I had never heard of them. After checking them out online we decided that the silly lyrics were enticing enough to go check them out. We were blown away. The band was so fun, weird and eclectic that it was definitely worth that $10 admission. We then stuck around to watch a secret late night DJ set by Hot Chip. Random!
We capped off the week with a great show by Glass Animals at the Gothic. The venue is an older building with tons of balconies to watch the show from. Eric and I got lucky with our view from one of the upper levels. We had a great view of the stage.
It was another great week and we are looking forward to seeing Alt-J later in the year.
